Why Indian smartphone companies went out of business?

Infrastructure

Indian smartphone companies never had their own manufacturing units, neither in India nor in China.

They used to buy readymade smartphones from any chinese firm, bring it to India, rebrand it as Micromax, Lava, Karbonn etc and sell it in the market with a big profit margin.

In 2014 Micromax became the number one smartphone selling brand in India. Others were also having their good part of share. Thats due to cheap prices of their smartphones with great specs.

But in 2014 Xiaomi and Oppo entered Indian market. Xiaomi took online market and oppo smashed the offline market. The prices they offered were very competitive as they were trying to take hold the Indian market so the prices they kept were quite low and on the other hand Indian smartphone companies were focussing on profit more rather than focussing on future.

Xiaomi and Oppo have their own manufacturing units, they have their own UI. These companies have strong foundation.

So with time Indian companies were out of business and today though they are operating but difficult to be seen online and offline.

Future Prospects

We have companies with a potential to enter into this market like Jio.

As the Indian smartphone market is expanding and their is high potential for getting the hold of market if proper strategy is followed with proper pricing.

In India even today lots of people are on featured phones and wants to use smartphone, so bringing a good featured smartphone with competitive price could be beneficial.

Thanks
